on the other hand (and foot)
23.1.10I took it upon myself today to resume my summertime ritual of the extended daily constitutional. Having much lamented over the past week of the pain in my wrist (a sprain caused by unknown circumstances, I cannot for the life of me figure out what I might have done to it), today the discomfort reached such a degree that I could not type, nor hold a pen, nor wield a knife to chop vegetables, not (perhaps the most distressing of them all) hold my SLR without wincing in pain. It's my right wrist that is bothersome, so I had been trying to accomplish most tasks using my left hand. Alas, I was not so successful. It seemed that everything I wanted to do required both hands in order to operate efficiently. Having my fill of one-handed tasks I decided set out on foot for a journey across the wintry sidewalks.
I followed my regular route across the bridge and back, wandering along the multi-use trail, through charming little residential streets, past shops that were closing up for the night. I left the apartment just as the sun was setting, so for about half of my walk I was accompanied by the lingering bits of daylight (although today it was more grey than anything). By the time I had returned to the bridge, evening had set in and it was only the deep rich blue of the sky that made me pause to take some photos with my iPhone (it being the one tool that I seem equally proficient at using either with my right or left hand).
Should the weather hold and my wrist improve, I will definitely repeat this stroll. I have dearly missed my daily circuitous saunter.
